Eyelid Rejuvenation Boston, MA

Blepharoplasty, also referred to as eyelid rejuvenation or eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure to improve the look of an aging, saggy, or puffy upper or lower eyelid. This can significantly improve the look of someone’s overall appearance as the eyes are one of the biggest focal points of a face. Our team at JL Plastic Surgery has provided numerous men and women with amazing results from their eyelid rejuvenation in Boston.

Blepharoplasty can take between 1-2 hours depending on if a patient desires rejuvenation of upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both.

Both upper blepharoplasty and lower blepharoplasty can involve the removal of excess skin as well as some of the fat that tends to bulge with age. Upper eyelids tend to develop excess skin first while the lower eyelids tend to develop bulging fat first (“eyelid bags”). Depending on the patient, each procedure is customized to what the patient needs and/or desires.

Your eyelid rejuvenation will be performed at our office in Boston, MA

Ideal Candidates

A good candidate for upper and/or lower blepharoplasty is someone who has excess loose eyelid skin or bulging fat (eye bags) on their lower eyelids and is willing to undergo the downtime needed for surgical correction.

While blepharoplasty can significantly rejuvenate someone’s periorbital (around the eye) area, it will not correct other problems that can be present, such as eyelid tone, eyebrow sagging, or forehead problems. Dr. Lee will discuss these if they are present and will give realistic expectations on what upper and/or lower blepharoplasty will accomplish. He will sometimes recommend additional procedures depending on the goals of the patient.

A good candidate for blepharoplasty is someone who wishes:

  • Correction of the constantly tired look
  • Correction of excess/droopy upper eyelid skin
  • Correction of lower eyelid “bags”

Recovery

Recovery from blepharoplasty is approximately 1-2 weeks as the eyelids are sensitive to swelling. Bruising, dryness, and some irritation are also common and will subside over time. Medication can help to manage any pain or discomfort you may experience.

Sutures are typically removed after 5-7 days, and makeup can be used after 10 days. It is especially important after blepharoplasty to take it easy during the first few weeks after surgery as an active patient will have prolonged swelling. Post-operative instructions will be provided following your eyelid rejuvenation in Boston to help you through the recovery process.
