Preparation

Before your breast implant removal and lift, Dr. Lee will provide you with a set of comprehensive preparation instructions to help guide you. He may instruct you to:

  • Prepare to take time away from your responsibilities and commitments to focus on resting.
  • Arrange transportation to and from your procedure.

Procedure

Dr. Lee performs breast implant removal and lift procedures on an outpatient basis, and each can take several hours, depending on the details of your treatment plan. Dr. Lee will first remove your implants before performing a breast lift to address the remaining skin. (1)

Once you are comfortable under anesthesia, Dr. Lee will place several incisions around the breasts to access the underlying structures of your chest. He will likely place each incision in the same locations as your previous breast augmentation incisions to help minimize any potential scarring. From there, Dr. Lee will remove your old breast implants along with any scarred or hardened tissue from the area.

Once Dr. Lee removes your implants, he will excise any unwanted breast tissue and skin. He will carefully lift and reshape the remaining tissue, creating a more proportionate, symmetrical, and desirable chest. (2) After performing your desired corrections, Dr. Lee will meticulously close each incision, then let you rest in our recovery suite to rest under the care of the JL Plastic Surgery team.

Recovery

After a breast implant removal and lift, it is common to experience some swelling and bruising as you recover. These effects will subside on their own, but you may also manage them with a cold compress and plenty of rest. During this time, Dr. Lee will supply you with a compression bra. Wearing this bra will minimize any additional swelling and help maintain the new contours of your breasts.

You may return to desk work and other light activities after resting for approximately 1-2 weeks, but you will need to continue refraining from engaging in any physically demanding or strenuous tasks and activities until Dr. Lee clears you to return. Most patients can resume their full routines after resting for approximately 4-6 weeks, but the exact timeframe can vary. Dr. Lee will give you additional instructions during your consultation.
