Breast Implant Removal/Replacement
Breast implants generally need to be removed or replaced after 10-15 years. At this time, what to do depends a lot on what you want as the patient. Options can include implant removal alone, replacement with different implants, removal in combination with a breast lift, or implant replacement in combination with a breast lift.
Good candidates for this surgery are patients who are:
- Unhappy with their implants
- Had their implants for 10-15 years
- Have implants but have noticed breast sagging over time
How Breast Implant Removal/Replacement is Performed
This procedure can take between 1-4 hours depending on how much work needs to be done and is also done under a sedation anesthesia.
While there are a variety of options, it is important to discuss your goals with Boston plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Lee during your consultation so that he can make the best recommendation for what is right for you. It is also helpful to come prepared with your breast implant cards and previous operative reports if they are available.
Breast Implant Removal/Replacement Recovery
Recovery depends on what surgery was performed. Many patients after implant removal or replacement alone are back to work or school in 1-2 days. If more surgery is performed, then recovery will be longer.
