About Botox in Boerne and McAllen

Botox is an injectable cosmetic treatment that is designed to reduce signs of facial aging by relaxing the muscles that trigger dynamic movement. Botox is a neuromodulator, meaning it works by influencing the activity of certain chemical messengers. The formula inhibits the release of acetylcholine, or the neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contractions. (3)

By suspending the muscle in a temporarily relaxed state, the skin can appear smoother, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines while simultaneously preventing the formation of new ones.

Preparation

While preparation for Botox is minimal, individuals should still follow any instructions provided by a member of our team for the best possible results.

Several days before their appointment, patients should cease the use of certain medications and supplements that have blood-thinning properties. The use of harsh skincare products, such as retinoids, chemical peels, and other exfoliants, should also be avoided. Additionally, each patient should ensure they are limiting their sun exposure, as sun damage might cause us to delay the procedure until the skin heals.

Procedure

On the day of each patient’s appointment, they should arrive with a clean face, free of makeup and other skincare products. The expert injector will first cleanse and sterilize the skin. A topical anesthetic may be administered, however, if necessary. The injector will use a fine needle to deliver the Botox formula into the predetermined regions, targeting areas where repetitive muscle movements can lead to the formation of creases and wrinkles. Each treatment lasts approximately 30 minutes or less. Some patients will receive injections in multiple areas to achieve their desired results.

Recovery

After the treatment, patients can return to their daily routines as there is no downtime associated with Botox injections. However, patients should avoid touching, rubbing, or putting pressure on treated areas following their appointment. Mild swelling or bruising may be experienced at the injection sites, but these effects will dissipate on their own in the following days, and any discomfort or headaches may be alleviated through the use of recommended medications. Any further recovery instructions will be provided by the expert injector at each patient’s consultation.

Results

The results of Botox are not immediate; it can take 3-4 days to see the initial results. Patients will be able to enjoy more youthful-looking skin as the facial muscles relax, smoothing out targeted wrinkles and creases while preventing new ones from forming in that area. The effects of Botox can last between 3 to 6 months, but patients are welcome to consider repeat treatments to prevent wrinkles from worsening. (4)

Corresponding Procedures

Many procedures may be performed alongside Botox for more comprehensive results, one of the most popular being our dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are a type of injectable filler designed to fill in deep lines or wrinkles, as well as restore volume to various parts of the face. We offer Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Sculptra.

  • Juvederm: Juvederm is a soft tissue filler that is administered to the cheeks, lips, and undereye areas to help restore volume and reduce signs of facial aging. This filler is composed of hyaluronic acid, a hydrating substance that can naturally be found in the body. Additionally, Juvederm is formulated with Vycross technology, a cross-linked hyaluronic acid that can distribute itself evenly under the skin while also naturally moving with each patient’s facial expressions.
  • Restylane: Restylane is another hyaluronic acid filler that can be used to enhance facial volume and augment the lips. This filler is known for producing fast-acting results, with some patients seeing improvements in their appearance on the same day as their appointment.
  • Radiesse: Radiesse is a dermal filler composed of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) or tiny microspheres that help increase collagen levels. Radiesse not only reduces the appearance of deep wrinkles or creases but also stimulates the production of fibroblasts, or cells that help our body produce collagen. Radiesse is commonly used to enhance the nose, chin, lips, or undereyes.
  • Sculptra: Sculptra is a dermal filler composed of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and can stimulate the production of collagen in the area of injection. Sculptra is ideal for patients interested in restoring facial volume and reducing the appearance of lines in the cheeks and wrinkles. Sculptra is known for having lasting effects, with many patients experiencing their results for as long as two years.
