What is Botox?
Botox is an FDA-approved injectable drug that is used for a variety of purposes. Most people know that Botox is a popular option for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Botox is also used to treat several medical issues such as excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis) and migraines.
Botox contains a purified form of botulinum toxin type A that is able to prevent nerves from sending signals to the muscles. This prevents the muscles from being able to contract resulting in temporary relaxation of the muscle.

The Benefits of Masseter Botox Treatments
The masseter muscle is the large and powerful muscle that connects the cheekbone to the lower jawbone. The masseter muscle is used when we close and open our jaw and play a significant role when we talk or chew. This thick and powerful muscle also plays a part when it comes to the appearance of the jawline.
In some people, the masseter can become enlarged which can give the jaw a thick and masculine appearance. In many women, masculine appearance can be undesirable. An enlarged jaw can also throw off the natural balance of facial proportions. In these cases, Botox injections can be used to give the jaw a smoother and rounder contour to give the face a more balanced appearance.
Masseter Botox injections can also be used to address issues like teeth grinding and pain as a result of jaw clenching. Factors like stress and anxiety can lead to chronic jaw clenching and teeth grinding. These issues can even occur while asleep. Botox injections can help to relax the jaw muscles, prevent teeth grinding, and reduce pain caused by tension in the jaw.
What to Expect
Your masseter Botox injections will be performed in-office at JL Plastic Surgery in Boston. The areas of the face where the injections will be made will be marked. A syringe with a fine needle will be used to inject the Botox into one or both sides of the face where the masseter muscle is located.
After Your Masseter Botox Treatment
The injections process only takes 15 to 30 minutes to complete. There is no recovery period though it is recommended that you avoid exercising for the next 24 hours or so. It will take around one month to see the full results of your masseter Botox treatment.
On average, the results provided from your non-surgical jaw slimming should last for around six months, though this will vary between patients based on a variety of factors. Once six months have passed or your results begin to noticeably fade, follow-up treatments can be scheduled to maintain the results of your masseter Botox treatment.
Other Uses for Botox
If you are interested in non-surgical jaw slimming using Botox, you may be interested in using Botox to treat a variety of other aesthetic facial concerns you may have. During your consultation, a treatment plan will be made with you that best matches your goals.
