Chin Augmentation involves adding an implant to the chin and making it project more. The implant can be made from porous polyethelene or silicone.
This procedure takes between 1-2 hours to perform under a sedation anesthesia.
Chin augmentation involves an incision under the chin, placement of the implant, and securing the implant with a titanium screw.
A good candidate for this procedure is a patient with a small chin. Since the chin makes up a large portion of the lower third of the face, it has significant impact to the overall facial appearance and harmony. A small change in someone’s chin can make a significant impact to their overall facial appearance, symmetry, and proportions.
If you take a picture of your face from the side, your upper lip, lower lip, and chin should be along the same line. If it is not, your may have a small chin and may benefit from chin augmentation.
Patients are usually back to work or school in a few days. Pain is mild to moderate and most patients only require prescription pain medication for less than 3 days. You will have surgical tape over your chin for a few days as well.
